Kogi Governor Ododo Commissions Oxygen Production Plants Across All Senatorial Districts

Kogi State, March 30, 2026 | PressNGR – In a major boost to healthcare delivery, Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo of Kogi State has commissioned oxygen production plants in each of the state’s three senatorial districts. The new facilities are located at PAAUTH Anyigba (East), Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja (West), and Mohammed Buhari Mother and Child Hospital Iruvochinomi (Central Senatorial District).
Each plant is capable of producing 76 cubic meters of oxygen daily and can fill 12 cylinders every four hours, enhancing the state’s capacity to respond to medical emergencies.
Representing the Governor at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, Kogi State Commissioner for Health, expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and partners, particularly the Global Fund, for their support in bringing the project to fruition. He described the initiative as a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to improving healthcare delivery across Kogi State.
Dr. Adams also emphasized the importance of security and protection for the facilities, assuring that the state government would implement measures to safeguard the plants and ensure their sustainability.
The Commissioner extended gratitude to Professor Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, for his neutral national support, and acknowledged the critical role of the Global Fund through NACA in supporting the oxygen plant project.
He further highlighted that the commissioning event included training for plant handlers, ensuring that the facilities will be effectively managed and maintained.
In his remarks, Mr. Onoja Kingsley, North Central Oxygen Zonal Coordinator from the Federal Ministry of Health, congratulated the state government and the Global Fund. He stressed the need for a strong maintenance culture, monitoring, and evaluation to maximize the impact of the oxygen plants.
During the event, Director Barnabas Olowasegun hailed the commissioning as a milestone in Kogi State’s healthcare development, describing it as a product of strong collaboration and dedication, with support from the Global Fund.
The establishment of these oxygen production plants across Kogi State marks a significant step in improving access to life-saving medical oxygen, strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure, and enhancing emergency response capabilities.
