Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has tendered an official apology to citizens over the ongoing electricity challenges and widespread power outages plaguing the nation.
The minister made this statement while addressing questions concerning his potential interest in contesting the upcoming Oyo State gubernatorial election.
Responding to the inquiry, Adelabu emphasized that his primary focus remains delivering results in his current position as Power Minister rather than pursuing political ambitions.
Impact on National Activities
The minister recognized that the persistent power failures have significantly disrupted business operations and essential activities nationwide, further compounding the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians.
While asserting that he is performing creditably in his ministerial role, Adelabu outlined that his immediate priorities involve addressing both anticipated and unexpected challenges confronting the power sector.
He provided assurance that his administration is working intensively to resolve the electricity supply problems before the end of March.
Official Statement
“I want to apologise to Nigerians, officially now, coming from me as the Minister of Power, for this temporary issue that is leading to hardship being experienced, especially during this dry season, where there is so much heat everywhere,” Adelabu stated.
“Businesses are being affected, schools have been affected, and industries have been affected. It is not our wish to find ourselves in this situation, but it is due to some factors that are actually beyond our control,” he added.
Relief Measures Underway
The Power Minister expressed optimism that relief is forthcoming, stating that improvements within the sector would significantly reduce the burden on Nigerians.
Adelabu disclosed that a special committee has been established with a two-week deadline to address critical infrastructure repairs, including damaged gas pipelines and other essential components.
“We already have a committee that is working on this to track compliance with the domestic supply obligations of these gas companies to our power plants,” the minister revealed.
The acknowledgment comes as millions of Nigerian homes, businesses, educational institutions, and industries continue to grapple with irregular power supply, forcing many to rely on expensive alternative energy sources.
PressNGR will continue monitoring developments in Nigeria’s power sector and provide updates as they unfold.
