ASABA – The Convener of Nigeria Youth for Good Governance, Comrade Igbedion Macaulay, has warned that Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori may struggle to secure a second term in the 2027 gubernatorial election.
Macaulay, an indigene of the Delta North Senatorial District, asserted that the state’s youth have become more politically aware and are unlikely to re-elect the Governor due to a perceived lack of clear economic direction.
Speaking on the state’s finances, Macaulay emphasized that the administration has failed to provide a transparent account of the billions of naira flowing into the state monthly through the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
”The state has not been able to account for the massive revenues it receives. There is a disconnect between the wealth coming in and the reality on the ground,” Macaulay stated.
The activist pointed to a lack of investment in human capital as the primary reason for Delta’s stagnant economic progress.
While acknowledging the ongoing construction of three flyovers in the state, he argued that infrastructure alone does not constitute holistic development, just as he called on the Governor to focus on human capital development
He emphasized that the current projects do not justify the volume of funds available to the state.
”I am not happy that Delta State is lagging in economic development,” Macaulay said.
He noted that a growing economy is built on human beings insisting that it is a tool to stimulate job creation.
“If a more credible candidate emerges, Sheriff Oborevwori may lose the next election.”
synchronizing his views, Comrade Macaulay urged Deltans to remain resolute and demand a leadership overhaul to ensure that the state’s resources are used to benefit the majority rather than a few.
