Osogbo, Osun State – Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed heartfelt sympathy to residents of Osogbo and its environs following the severe rainstorm that struck the state capital and surrounding communities on Saturday night.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the governor described the downpour as “sad and unfortunate” and said he is deeply concerned about the widespread damage suffered by families and businesses.
The violent storm uprooted rooftops, damaged homes and shops, and brought down electric cables and streetlights, particularly around Ogo‑Oluwa and Olaiya areas of Osogbo. A giant billboard near Aregbe Junction was blown onto a soft drink distribution truck, disrupting traffic and heightening fears among commuters.
Governor Adeleke said his administration would work through the Osun State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief and support to victims. He also directed the Ministry of Works to clear affected roads quickly to reopen major routes and reduce further disruptions.
A distressed resident, Adeniyi Oluwafemi, recounted how strong winds ripped the roof off his house, leaving his belongings soaked and in disarray. “All my electronics and bedding were drenched,” he said, adding that he is still assessing the full extent of his losses.
The governor reiterated the need for residents to exercise caution and cooperate with emergency personnel as clean‑up and recovery efforts continue across affected neighborhoods.
