EKIRS Extends Deadline for Individual Annual Tax Returns Filing

The Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS) has announced a two-week extension for the filing of Individual Annual Income Tax Returns. The new deadline is now April 14, 2026, instead of the initial March 31, 2026, statutory due date.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Executive Chairman of EKIRS, Mr. Olaniran Olatona, said the extension was granted to allow taxpayers additional time to accurately complete and submit their returns.

He reiterated that March 31 remains the official deadline each year, but emphasised that the extra time is intended to support compliance and ease the filing process since it is the first time. Mr. Olatona encouraged individuals to treat the timely submission of their Annual Income Tax Returns as an essential civic responsibility and a routine obligation going forward.

He further clarified that all filings must be completed electronically via the EKIRS e-Tax platform, as manual submissions are no longer accepted. Mr. Olatona urged concerned individuals and stakeholders to use the extension to complete the exercise as there may not be another extension.

Describing the e-Tax system as secure and convenient, the Executive Chairman advised taxpayers to submit their returns exclusively through the official portal at tax.ekitistaterevenue.com.
