In recognition of his unwavering commitment to social justice, public health, and community development, the Executive Director of Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA), Comrade Akinbode Oluwafemi, has been conferred with the prestigious Award of Excellence for Outstanding Service to Humanity by the Rotary Club of Abuja Metro.
The honour was bestowed upon the veteran activist during the glamorous Investiture ceremony of Engr. Micheal Oluwagbemi as the 17th President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Metro, held in the nation’s capital over the weekend.
A Celebration of Service and Leadership
The high-profile event brought together key stakeholders, policymakers, civil society leaders, and distinguished Rotarians. It served as a double-headed celebration, featuring not only the change of guard at the club’s leadership but also the official launch of the book,

“Blueprint for Progress: Ideas and Reflections on Nigeria’s Development,” authored by the newly inaugurated President, Engr. Micheal Oluwagbemi.
The book, which has already begun generating conversations in policy circles, offers a comprehensive roadmap and intellectual reflections on navigating Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.
An Award Well-Deserved

Akinbode Oluwafemi’s recognition by the Rotary Club an organization globally renowned for its commitment to “Service Above Self” comes as no surprise to observers of Nigeria’s civil society space. For decades, Oluwafemi has been at the forefront of advocacy for public health, environmental justice, water rights, and corporate accountability across Africa.
Under his leadership, CAPPA has successfully challenged corporate abuses, promoted policies to curb the marketing of unhealthy foods and tobacco to minors, and championed the protection of public utilities from aggressive privatization.
