Former House Minority Leader and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Farouk Aliyu, has claimed that he was an accomplice in the 2018 incident involving the removal of the Senate mace from the National Assembly.

Aliyu made the disclosure while speaking about Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and the controversial episode that occurred at the National Assembly in April 2018.

According to him, the mace taken from the Senate chamber was brought to his residence, and he was involved in the events surrounding its removal.

Expressing disappointment over Omo-Agege’s actions, Aliyu said he was bringing up the incident as a reminder of what happened during the controversial episode.

He said: “Omo-Agege, I really feel sad about what he’s done to us. He might be embarrassed if I say this, but Omo-Agege, remember when the mace was stolen? That mace was brought to my house. I was an accomplice.”

The 2018 incident generated widespread controversy after the Senate mace was removed from the chamber during plenary by individuals linked to then-Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

The mace, which is a symbol of the authority of the Senate, was later recovered after being taken from the National Assembly complex.

Aliyu’s latest comments have brought renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding the incident and his claimed involvement in the episode.
