A tragic incident has thrown the community of Aloko, Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State, into mourning following the death of an eight-year-old girl, Saida Haruna, who reportedly fell into an unmarked pit behind her family’s home.

According to reports, Saida had earlier attended her Islamic school (Karate) in the morning. After returning home from lessons, the young girl reportedly wandered behind the house, where she came across a small, unevenly dug pit recently excavated by her brother and another local boy, reportedly for construction or farming purposes.

Out of curiosity, Saida reportedly bent down to look into the pit but unfortunately lost her balance and fell inside, sustaining severe injuries.

Despite efforts to rescue her, the young girl reportedly died from the injuries sustained in the incident.

Her sudden death has left her family, friends and members of the community devastated, with many mourning the loss of a young life cut short in such a tragic and unexpected manner.

The incident serves as a painful reminder of the dangers posed by uncovered and unmarked excavations, particularly around homes and areas where children play.

Advice to Parents and Guardians

Parents and guardians are urged to always keep a close watch on their children and ensure that potentially dangerous areas such as pits, wells, excavations and construction sites are properly covered, fenced or clearly marked.

Children are naturally curious and may not fully understand the dangers around them. A little vigilance and proper safety measures can prevent avoidable tragedies and save precious lives.

PressNGR extend her heartfelt condolences to the family of little Saida Haruna and the entire Aloko community over this painful loss. May God grant the family the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, and may He grant the departed child eternal rest.
