A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested for allegedly impersonating his father and sitting for a promotion examination on his behalf in Abuja.
Monsuru was reportedly caught on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, while allegedly writing the promotion examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja.
The examination, which was on its third day, was being monitored by security personnel deployed on the directive of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
According to a statement issued by the minister’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, the suspect told security officials that his father, Musa Mohammed, a staff member of the FCT Fire Service, was sick.
However, the younger Musa reportedly confessed that his father had asked him to sit for the examination on his behalf.
The incident reportedly raised further questions after inconsistencies emerged concerning the age of the father.
When asked about his father’s age, Monsuru reportedly said he was between 67 and 68 years old. However, his father later told officials that he would be 60 years old in February 2027.
The father also stated that he completed primary school in 1977 and secondary school in 1982.
Following the incident, both the father and son were reportedly handed over to the police for further investigation after making statements to operatives of the State Security Service (SSS).
The authorities are expected to investigate the alleged examination malpractice and impersonation and determine whether further disciplinary or legal action should be taken against the two suspects.
